Change Orage Clock preferences

Rightclick on the Orage clock, then choose Properties.

1. Click on timezone to set the timezone to the one you are in right now, when finished continue to the next.

2. Set what you want in Line 1 and Tooltip - changes take effect immediately.

Example: In Line 1 %R %S sets the time to be shown as 12:07 01 where %R shows the hour and minutes and %S shows the seconds. If you want 12 hour clock with AM and PM then just only use %X in Line 1

For the Tooltip which is shown when you hold the mouse cursor over Orage clock, an example is:

%A %d %B %Y

%A shows the weekday
%d shows the current date
%B shows the current month
%Y shows the current year

So it looks like this: Friday 16 November 2018

You can set it to how you would like it to show.

Code:

%%   a literal %
%a   locale's abbreviated weekday name (e.g., Sun)
%A   locale's full weekday name (e.g., Sunday)
%b   locale's abbreviated month name (e.g., Jan)
%B   locale's full month name (e.g., January)
%c   locale's date and time (e.g., Thu Mar  3 23:05:25 2005)
%C   century; like %Y, except omit last two digits (e.g., 21)
%d   day of month (e.g, 01)
%D   date; same as %m/%d/%y
%e   day of month, space padded; same as %_d
%F   full date; same as %Y-%m-%d
%g   last two digits of year of ISO week number (see %G)
%G   year of ISO week number (see %V); normally useful only with %V
%h   same as %b
%H   hour (00..23)
%I   hour (01..12)
%j   day of year (001..366)
%k   hour ( 0..23)
%l   hour ( 1..12)
%m   month (01..12)
%M   minute (00..59)
%n   a newline
%p   locale's equivalent of either AM or PM; blank if not known
%P   like %p, but lower case
%r   locale's 12-hour clock time (e.g., 11:11:04 PM)
%R   24-hour hour and minute; same as %H:%M
%s   seconds since 1970-01-01 00:00:00 UTC
%S   second (00..60)
%t   a tab
%T   time; same as %H:%M:%S
%u   day of week (1..7); 1 is Monday
%U   week number of year, with Sunday as first day of week (00..53)
%V   ISO week number, with Monday as first day of week (01..53)
%w   day of week (0..6); 0 is Sunday
%W   week number of year, with Monday as first day of week (00..53)
%x   locale's date representation (e.g., 12/31/99)
%X   locale's time representation (e.g., 23:13:48)
%y   last two digits of year (00..99)
%Y   year
%z   +hhmm numeric timezone (e.g., -0400)
%Z   alphabetic time zone abbreviation (e.g., EDT)

Change Orage week day to start with monday

It has annoyed me for a while that the starting week day in Peach OSI's Calendar App Orage, is shown as sunday - it might be like that in biblical terms, but the first day of week in business terms is monday.

So in order to change it, I went on google to find a solution - to my surprise it's not even on Orage own webpage, so I had to put it together by reading tips many different places and collect them in one solution(there are a lot of misinformation on the net) - this works:

1. Go to Settings then click on Language Support
2. Drag English (United Kingdom) to the top of the list, and click Apply system-wide

3. Restart you computer

If you want to change how dates and number are shown, then click on the tap Regional Formats and change it there.

To be or not to be LTE/4G!

This information could change your internet connection for the better, and not only apply to Denmark but could be used in your country too:

For years now I have only been able to get 3G where I live in Denmark, eventhough I'm surrounded by Mobile towers. Even after an extensive troubleshooting with my ISP(Internet supplier) they said that I lived too far from the tower.

It turns out, that is not always the reason for the problem - If you like me, have had the same Sim card and phone number for many years, then you Sim card may not be LTE/4G enabled!

This is something that support don't usually think about when they try to find the reason that you can't get LTE/4G.

You will need a new LTE/4G enabled sim card - if you are on Postpaid plan, then you can get one with the same number for free, but if you are Prepaid you might have to pay for a new Sim card and thereby get a new number.

Please be aware to backup your contacts before swapping out the simcards.

You can get APP's for making backup to your SD card or copy all your contacts to the phone, there is also an option to upload all your contacts to Google if you use an Android phone, just be aware that Google use a strange format for contacts so they might look a bit strange when restored(not always) - and you will need an internet connection for this.

Hope this helps someone.

Linux with Thunderbird 60 and newer - how to add google to search list!

This is the solution to get Google Search working in TB 60 and newer - I followed the exact instruction here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-search-engine-open-search#thunderbird:linux:tb60

But Google never showed up in the search list and the search.json.mozlz4 just gets regenerated when TB starts.

So for linux users, shut down Thunderbird and go to your home folder and find .thunderbird. Open it and open the profile folder - it may be named something like /home/xx/.thunderbird/xxxxxxxx.default/ Where the xx is your username and xxxxxxxx.default is the profile folder.

Now delete search.json.mozlz4

Then rightclick on http://bwinton.latte.ca/Work/google.xml. Save link as a file called google.xml

Then open Thunar or your favorite filemanager in sudo mode and copy the google.xml to

/usr/lib/thunderbird/distribution/searchplugins/common/

Start Thunderbird and Google should now be in the list of search engines. It work on my system which run TB 60.2.1 on Peach OSI TW 16.04 LTS (which is a modified version of Xubuntu - alot more stable).

A pitty that mozilla can't figure out to update their own solutions, when they make major changes to their products!

Hope this help someone else, and you then help other people!

Xubuntu - printer connected but not printing FIX

If your already installed printer that has worked before, when you re-connect it to USB, it will not print - then try these steps:

1. Open Preferences and then Printers
2. Chose your printer and rightclick on it and chose Properties
3. Click on Policies and make sure that Enabled has a checkmark
4. Click Apply and go back to Settings and Print a testpage

Now it should work.

This might happen if you connected the printer to other USB port than the one you installed it to. Can also happen when you get updates to CUPS.

Sofware center fix for Peach OSI 16.04 LTS

With the courtesy of Jim, the author of Peach OSI, I have written this small guide for fixing some glitches in the new software center in 16.04(It seems to like to remove entries for software that wasn't installed by the new software center - this is a problem from Ubuntu and not Peach OSI), so if you can't wait for an updated version of Peach OSI 16.04 with the problems solved, then try the following solution - it worked for me:

Before we begin, make sure you have an internet connection.

Open the old software center and search for and install "Debian Package Search" - don't use " ".

Run it(it might start by itself after installing). Give it a minute and then it should have a pop up window appear asking if you want to run the app - cache repair(that is what we want to do), followed by a terminal window.

You can close the old software center while this goes on.

When its finished click on Close and reboot your machine the normal way.

When your system is restarted, you need to open Software Updater from the dock in the bottom of the screen, and do the partial upgrade. Let it run - it may take an hour or more depending on your internet connection.

It'll ask questions to remove older deprecated files - let it remove them.

Reboot and run update again until you get the report from Software Updater, that the system is updated.

Then run the new "Software" center and see if there are any updates there - which there should be.

After you are sure you've completed all the updates reboot again and boot to the new Linux Kernel 93 and then run Ubuntu Tweak from settings, to remove all the cruft and old kernels.

Then run Grub Customizer and adjust Grub to how you want it to look and then reboot again checking your handy work.

You should now have a good clean install and the Debian Package Search program should always notify you if your app cache gets targeted by the new Software Center app again and will automatically notify you if there is ever an issue.

Hopefully Ubuntu will address this issue with their new software center, sooner than later.

If the update center still will not work we may need to update the xapian cache.

Open a terminal and type

sudo update-apt-xapian-index

Let it run - reboot - try to update again.

Easy way to clone your Bootable USB drive to a smaller drive

I looked around for a easy solution or tool to do this, as I'm not so good at command line, but all I found were very technical and command line options, and very few could clone something to smaller drive(only larger) and most had to be from livecd - so I tried to figure this out myself and here are the results:

1. First you take the NEW drive and make it bootable the same way as the original drive. Then unmount and re-mount it.

2. Then remove whatever files is on it.

3. Then copy the the contents of the original drive to the NEW drive.

4. Use Gparted or any other partition tool to verify that the NEW drive is bootable, then take it for a spin.

Finished.

In my case I had made my original drive with Yumi for windows(yes there are a linux version but you have to look elsewhere than Software center, Sourceforge is a good bet) - So I took the NEW drive and made it bootable with Yumi for windows(but could just as well have used the linux one) and followed the steps above. And all works as it should.

If I helped you than a thank you goes long way

Usermade links in Thunar dissapears after reboot

If you make your own links(Shortcuts) to folders on other partitions than the partition your linux distribution are on, then the links might not be there after reboot, until you manually mount the partition the links refer to. This goes for Peach OSI 14.04 LTS and Xubuntu - and perhaps more distributions.

The solution is to automount the partitions on startup - Do NOT use the Disks utility, as your pc will get stuck on startup - this can be done the following way:

First open Mousepad(or your favorite text editor).

Then open terminal and type the following:

ls -al /dev/disk/by-uuid/

Then find the partition(s) that you want to automount and copy the UUID to Mousepad, the UUID look similair to this:

 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  10 Jul 10 19:16 385dd128-7054-4821-9a24-bb43881676d6 -> ../../sda2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  10 Jul 10 19:16 3b5c8b74-2a69-4f1a-b86f-1385f1e2ca17 -> ../../sda5
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  10 Jul 10 19:16 afae36e8-98ba-46bd-bc02-956afeea370b -> ../../sda1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  10 Jul 10 19:16 c86e9d2c-b017-4bd3-8adc-c73ffcbd71d1 -> ../../sda6

The UUID is the long code in the middle, divided by several -

Now Click on Applications then click on All Settings icon in the bottom.

Find and click on Session and Startup and click on Application Autostart.

Then click on the Add button.

Here you give a name(make your own) and description(make your own).

In the command field you type this:

udisksctl mount --block-device /dev/disk/by-uuid/

Copy your UUID from Mousepad and paste it in after the last /

Then click on OK.

Repeat for all the drives you want to automount.

When finished click on Close and restart your pc.

Importing contacts and folders into Thunderbird

Many of us like to use an offline e-mail program, this no matter if you are on Linux or Windows - Thunderbird is a bit of both worlds, as it also can handle the online folders in your e-mail account - that is why I chose it(and it came pre-installed with Peach OSI).

There is a problem importing contacts from Windows Live mail into Thunderbird, there is an article about it here:

http://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.dk/2013/03/importing-csv-files.html

I did not follow the whole article, because of the way I have set up my contacts -  What I did, were to make a new contacts-new.csv file from within Thunderbirds Adressbook and open it in LibreOffice Calc - then open the one from Windows Live mail in LibreOffice Calc and copy details over to the new one(anything under the first column).

When you do this you have to put the the mouse where you want to start and click 1 time, then use the arrow keys + shift to navigate and mark - it will not work if you use the mouse to mark - then rightclick on the marked area and choose copy. Then do the same in the new .csv file, but this time choose paste(make sure you have the same amount of columns). When finished, save the new .csv file and import it into Thunderbird from within Addressbook - Not from Thunderbird itself!

Importing folders from storage folders, doesn't work either, you have to install this add-on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/

Then rightclick the Local folder you want to import you folders to(make a new folder), then click on Import/ExportTools, go down to Import all messages from a directory, then click on: also from its subdirectories

Find the folder you want to import(from your backup or on the windows drive), then click Open and all the messages in that folder will be imported.

Peach OSI instead of Windows

As I have told previously, I have switched from windows 7 to Peach OSI which is an heavily modified Linux distrobution based upon Xubuntu. I'm running this on a Lenovo Thinkpad R500, with 4GB ram and 500GB harddisk, 15.4" LCD and Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T6570 2.10GHz. This laptop had problems with Windows 10, because of the lack of updated drivers.

The installation went without any problems and were, including the initial setup, finished within 20 min. - thats alot faster than Windows. Internet, sound and video worked out-of-the-box, so did the mouse, but I had to setup the tapping(I don't like that).

After this I started customizing it to my liking, and this went very quicly also. After running the first updates for Firefox and the base OS, everything now worked as it should. I have been using Peach OSI as my primary OS for the last 3 months, and I like it so much that I will recommend it to everyone I know - also Non-techies:)

If you don't like to have Peach OSI installed on your machine, then you can run it as portable on a USB stick or on an LiveDVD.

I have been a using Linux for over 7 years and always switched back to or dualbooted with windows 7, because there were always something I didn't like or found too much trouble to fix myself - with this one, there is nothing to fix, only things to set up to my liking.

I use VLC as my main Media Player, and Banshee for music, I chose to have Flash Player installed with Peach OSI, and it will get updates whenever everything else gets updated. The main difference between Linux and Windows regarding updates, is that your programs also get updates - even if they are not produced by the author of the Linux version(windows don't have that feature).

As with Ubuntu, Peach OSI comes with Ubuntu Software Center were there are many things you can download and install for free, but there are also a few things that cost money.

There are also Synaptics, this is similair to the software center, but things here are for free.

As something new, compared to other Linux distrubutions, the author of Peach OSI has set up an Facebook account where you can contact him if you run into trouble - Microsoft does not have this!

Below are some pictures of Thunar which is the filemanager for Peach OSI, Firefox and the very handy quicklaunch bar in the bottom of the screen.

I may have mentioned thís earlier, I really like this OS:) Hope you will too.
Peach OSI homepage: https://www.peachosi.com/

UPDATE: After this article were written, I have moved on to the 16.04 LTS version of Peach OSI and in 64 bit. And I'm now running it on a Lenovo Thinkpad X300, which is my only machine, I do not need anything else.

Don't want Windows 10? - de-activate automatic updates NOW!

Microsoft has taken the choice away from the user, wether or not they want Windows 10 - so if automatic updates is enabled, then Windows 10 will be downloadet and installed - and there is nothing the user can do to stop it.

The user just have to wait until the install is finished and then its possible to go back to previous windows version. windows 7 is supported until 2020.

The free Windows 10 update run until juli 2016, and after this period you have to pay for Windows 10.

Personally, I do not recommend people to update, since Windows 10 has too many errors and bad updates that often break something in Windows, And its not even certain that you PC can run Windows 10 100%. There can be drivers that do not work as they should, - even though Microsoft claim the opposite (do not trust the update program).

If you want to transfer to Windows 10, then its better to invest in a new machine or wait for the hardware manufacturers to make new drivers - for some products you can use the old Windows 7 and 8 drivers, but its not always they work as they should together with Windows 10(Microsoft's fault, not the driver).

Or there are the possibility to go down to your local computer guy and get your machine checked to see if there should be drivers for windows 10, so you can upgrade now.

Personally, I skipped this and installed Peach OSI on my laptop - I'ts fork of Ubuntu Linux, based upon an heavily modified Xubuntu. So far I have had no complaints, of course there are a few things that needs to be modified to fit your machine and you, but most things worked out-of-the-box.

I will later make a review of Peach OSI on my laptop, with pictures.

Cherry Mobile Cubix Cube TWO - get rid of eWarranty

If your are one of the lucky owners of Cherry Mobile Cubix Cube TWO - sold exclusively through LAZADA Philippines - then you might have a problem completing the eWarranty which starts every time you turn the phone ON.

Should that happen to you then complain to LAZADA here:

customer@lazada.com.ph

And explain to them that the submit button does not work!

Here is a work around that you can use until Cherry Mobile's extremely bad customer service, has sorted this out:

Go to settings, then Apps, then scroll to ALL and press on eWarranty. Now press on Disable button and go back to home screen. Now restart your phone and see if it turns ON without the eWarranty pop up.

This is a temporary work around, it does not remove this anoying thing and it certainly does not complete your warranty - so if you factory reset, this will come back again.

BTW: there are no Frontliner code in the box - so you can stop looking!

Be careful if you want to buy a Lenovo Smartphone in the Philippines

Be advised, that Lenovo Mobile(from now on LM to avoid confusion) which is handling support of Lenovo phones in the Philippines, is NOT Lenovo company, they are in fact part of TAO Corporation and are not obligated to follow any of Lenovo's guidelines or offer same service level as you are used to from your country - and they certainly don't even try to do that.

Complaining to Lenovo won't help, they just refer you back to the dealer or Lenovo in mainland China - really bad service.

This is because, in the Philippines, the warranty is not with Lenovo, it is with the dealer/importer(LM) - You do have 1 year factory warranty which includes 14 days return(Philippine law) from Lenovo - but they leave it to the dealer/importer to sort it out.

Why? Because they can! And nobody in the Philippines are stopping them - there are no real protection of consumers rights! There are government agencies you can complain to when companies don't uphold the warranty or Philippine law, but be realistic they are probably not going to file a case against a big company, just because you complain.

I will advise people to carefully consider it, before buying Lenovo mobile phones in the Philippines, as LM customer service is not at all helpful, if something is wrong with the phone!

Here is my story:

As a long time IT-consultant, my brother in law came to me for help finding a good Android phone. At Techbox, 2nd floor at Robinsson mall in Calapan, we chose a Lenovo A316i, because this model had enough Ram(memory), Rom(internal storage), good 3G modem, and a 2000 mAh battery in the box(normal battery for this model is 1300 mAh). Lenovo is normally good quality(at least in europe) - I always buy this brand for myself and customers.

The phone came with 1 year warranty and 1 week return for factory defaults(not 14 days). At home, I started setting up the phone with apps and anti-virus using my Wi-Fi. The phone worked fine. But after just 5 days from purchase, an LCD Pixel error developed as a white line across the lower bottom of the LCD.

I immediately contacted Lenovo Mobile(LM) http://lenovomobile.ph - by sending them an email through their own contact form on their support page, asking for help on how to get the phone replaced with a new unit. After 3 e-mails, where the last one I used my own computers email system so I would have a receipt, and still no reply from LM, I called them.

My first call to LM were on january 21, here I talked to Hanna, and after explaining the problem, she agreed it were factory fault - she agreed to call Techbox International Inc. on the number I provided from their webpage and ask them to get hold of the store in Calapan(Robinsson Mall), so they could have a new phone ready for us when we went there to swap it. Then after talking to them, she would call me back friday or monday.

She didn't call, so on January 26 I called back and again it were Hanna who picked up the call - nothing had changed, as she claimed that Techbox didn't know how to get hold of their own store in Calapan, so she had no feedback from Techbox. And so it went on for several times, still no service and no call from Hanna.

Finally an e-mail arrived from LM, telling me to bring the phone to the TechBox shop we bought it so it could be sent in for Service checkup. Not to be replaced - this beacuse the 7 days of replacement had already passed - That this were their fault, because they had not replied to me in time - they didn't care about, and never replied to my complaint of this.

So my brother in law and I, took it back to the shop, as it were the only thing to do now - There I had the pleasure of a sales lady arguing with me for 30 minutes, since she would not send the phone in for repair - I even showed her the email from LM - until I demanded the manager to come and talk with me. The manager arrived just about 45 min. later, and we were told that they would send it in for repair and that would take between 1-3 months. Being tired of all the endless arguments, we agreed. I demanded a written receipt of handing in for repair and got it, and we left.

As it turned out the phone were never sent to Lenovo - it were sent to LM and they just copied the data on it to another phone, and shipped this back to the shop, who then after 2.5 months, finally sent it back to my brother in law. At first glance it looked like the same phone, but after examining it, I discovered the following: The battery were 1500 mAh, the model were A369i(lesser model) - and the Phone were SIM Locked to SMART Telecom. We had bought a phone that were, openline, had 2000 mAh battery and better internal 3G modem.

So I called LM again, and again the girl(new one) had to call Techbox(this time I had a phone number for her), and Lenovo to find out what went wrong. I told ther that we wanted a replacement of the same model with the same 2000 mAh battery, not lesser model - she said she would call me back. After 1 week still nothing and I called again. She had no news for me, and again she said she would call me back. And never did - after calling the hotline again I were told they could not get hold of the girl I had talked with and had no notes about this case. So 1200p extra expenses, trying to get proper service, and all this time were enough! My brother in law and I went down to the local phone shop and got the phone made openline for 400p.

To this day, several months later, LM has not called back or tried to fix their mistake! They just left the case open like this, with no obvious intentions of fixing it! I call that fraud!

This has been a nightmare for my brother in law, since this were his first smartphone and he already paid for it, and then all this - shame on Lenovo Mobile and shame on Lenovo company for allowing this world class screwup to go on!

Another thing I found out: TechBox and Lenovo Mobile is both part of the TAO Corporation, so its very unlikely that they don't know to contact eachother.

Globe Telecom and FUP (Fair usage policy)

When you use Globe as service provider for internet and telephony, then you most likely have been notified with their FUP - but did you know that they cheat you for 1php if you try to send load to another SIM card and it doesn't go through - I say cheat, because they covered this under their policy regarding share-a-load and claim that you pay the 1php for the service to try sending through share-a-load NOTE: not for completing the share-a-load!

So if it fails many times in a day, then Globe deduct those many pesos from your account without completing the service! Is that Fair Usage Policy?

Houston we have a problem! GLOBE

Lately GLOBE Telecom has really been dragging their feet with delivering a stable internet connection to us here in Puerto Galera, so far I have had to call them on the hotline two days ago, and yesterday and today contact them by email and their own online form which you can find here:

http://www.globe.com.ph/talk2globenow

Or their online chat which you can find here:

http://chat.globe.com.ph/

Drop them a line and tell them how you really feel about their connection - maybe it will help(if enough people complain). Make sure to give them all details

Also I made some screen shots, proving that Globe are able to deliver they just don't have the capacity in the daytime(1 or 2 more servers in Batangas would help a great deal).

Also making sure that businesses use the business 3G connection instead of the residential only, would actually give the rest of us a nice connection ALL day, not just in the evening or nighttime when all businesses are closed.

My tests has been made with Nokia CS-19 HSDPA USB modem capable of connection up to 21Mbps and Globe Sim capable of connection up to 7.2Mbps. Also i use a directional antenna(booster) so I can connect to the best towers.

As you can see, the speed is good in the nightime and early morning, but as soon as we we move later up in the day the speed drops dramatically. Also the connection is really unstable, several times the speed dropped down to 0, I have had to restart all my downloads several times so now I'm using a download manager(not all sites allow that).

NEM ID - Can't login - then look here!

Danish version below.

Latest version of Java works fine, but NEM ID don't work with the latest version, so if you Auto-updated your Java(as most do) and you can't login to netbank or other places where you need to use NEM ID - then you need to uninstall the newest version of Java and install an older version.

Old version of Java can be downloaded from here:

http://tjekpc.dk/downloads.asp?bankno=19&lang=da

When you have downloaded this old version of Java, then uninstall your present version and restart your pc/laptop to be sure its gone. Then install the version you just donwloaded.

DO NOT update it, untill you have called NEM ID tlf: 72247050 or your Netbanks support and confirmed that the newest Java is working with NEM ID.

It should work now.

China Phones and a few things you might want to know

Here in the Philippines, there are many places where you can buy a "Knock off copy" of an Nokia or other brand of phone, and they are nice looking and cheap - if you bargain the price down - but be carefull!

Many of these phones are advertised as with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, some even with Android OS - but in real life, often the Wi-Fi is fake and the Bluetooth is only for headset(not working with filetransfer), Android is usually also fake and in real life a clone that does not have "Android market" installed, so it will be extremely dificult to install other software than the few applications that the model comes with pre-installed.

And for God sake, never drop your phone, often then screen is of such poor quality that it will go loose and not many here can repair it! Usually there are no parts for china phones.

If you have taken this into mind and still is set on buying one, then ask to get a demostration of the phone and look in the menu for JAVA. If you find JAVA in the menu, then there is a chance that the phone can get new games and a few applications - I said a chance, its not a certain fact, since the JAVA  might also be fake!

Also go to the build-in filemanager and check the phone memory if its only a few kilobytes(KB or just K), then forget it - the phone is a fake that cannot get new programs or games!

If its a so called "Android" phone, then look in the menu for "Android market" and try to browse and download/install and application - there are alot of free ones there. If it works then you have a cheap Android phone, but most often it will fail.

There phones that are made in China, but has better quality. Some mentioned are: MyPhone(assembled in Philippines), Cherry mobile, DTC and so on.

A few links:

http://myphone.com.ph/index.php

These phones are nice, but again check if you can install JAVA games/applications or if the Android version  is at least 2.3 and that the phone support Adobe Flash Player 10 or above. Flash Player allows you to watch videos on youtube and other streaming sites.

Android

  • ARMv7 processor with vector FPU, minimum 550MHz, OpenGL ES 2.0, H.264 and AAC HW decoders
  • Android™ 2.2, 2.3, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, and 4.0
  • 256MB of RAM
  • Android web browser
Here is a link to Adobe Flash Player system requirements:

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/tech-specs.html

Even if the phone has an processor(also called CPU) higher than 550Mhz, it has to be at least an ARMv7, and suggests on the net states that it should be 800Mhz and above, or videos might work but be "choppy".

Update: MyPhone is taking looooong time to answer the emails I have sent from the form on their own website, and the emails I have sent directly to the MyPhone customer service

So I'm not so sure they can be recommended. The phones are pretty good, but I can't say the same for the customer service. I hope they will fix that very soon, because what use is 1 year warranty if you can't get hold of the customer service to get help!!!!

Update: CS got back to me and suggested an FirmWare update, unfortunately/very strange the version they had were older than the one on the phone! Seriously????

Also they didn't bother to answer the rest of my list of questions:

Opera mini, Is there anyway to get the pre-installed Opera mini upgraded to the newer 6.5 version? As of now the pre-installed has too many bugs and no JAVA support.

Is there a way to remove the pre-installed games/apps? They take up precious memory.

On WLAN connection, the pre-installed Youtube application opens Mediaplayer when a video is chosen, but Mediaplayer does not buffer, comes with a "failed to buffer" message, and thereby rendering the youtube application useless. Any fix for this?

If using the pre-installed Opera mini to open a video, it closes with "insufficient memory" message. Any fix for this?

When looking through all settings and options on the phone I came by a strange thing: In JAVA settings the Heap size is 0(zero) that is not correct it should be something like the following values: 1 - 512 KB 2 - 768 KB 3 - 1024 KB 4 - 2048 KB (default) 5 - 4096 KB 6 - No limit Number 6 is unlimited(Heap size only limited to preinstalled memory). this could be the reason the Youtube app. and other apps crash with the "Isufficient memory" error. Do you have a fix for this? .

What is the CPU in this model and what kind og GPU does it have?

A couple of times the phone had trouble reading SMART Talk n' text Sim, didn't matter which Sim slot. This is not allways and the sim works fine in other phone, so I'm thinking maybe a SW glitch - any fix for this? .

How can this phone be software upgraded like other brands can?

What is the OS of this phone?

Is there a limitation on the size(kb/MB) of Java applications or games that can be installed?

These are pretty serious questions, that CS choose to ignore - they probably don't know!

So I stay on my opinion regarding recommendation.

With kind regards

A few things you should know about Globe Telecom!

As a foreigner in the Philippines its not always easy to figure out things here, though most of the business people speak english to you, they will speak Filipino among themselves - even if you are standing right in front of them. But then again its up to you to learn Filipino:)

This blog is about tech related troubles or something that I think you might want to know:)

In this case: My personal experience with Globe Telecom. They are the ones to provide the pre-paid Globe Tattoo Unlimited 3G internet service.

Unlimited is not really the right word to use. If you sign up for Supersurf50 then you download is limited with 800Mb per day, the same goes for Supersurf220, but here its 1GB per day. That's not unlimited!

Furthermore, should you reach these limits, then Globe will cut off your internet connection and resume it next day.

What you should know, is that next day starts at 12.01am, this means that eventhough your not using the internet, it is running!

And to add to this, you are not going to get the remaining hours from the cut off time to the re-connect time. The connection wil be cut off at excactly the same time you connected the day before.

For example:  If you connect at 1pm tuesday and get cut off at 10pm(due to limitation), then you will be reconnected next day(wednesday) at 12.01am and finally disconnected at 1pm.

Now for Globe that means 1 day of internet - But I'm asking where the 2 hours went? They were not added to the total internet time, and as far as I know 1 day is the same as 24 hours - not 22 hours! This is a probleme that Globe should fix immediately!

The above happened this morning (marts 24). Can someone explain me where my missing 5 hours and 14 minutes went(not counting the seconds)? Because its clear that I paid for 1 day (24 hours), but didn't get it! I got from marts 23 at 00:14:12am to marts 24 at 00:16:14am and then Globe disconnected me.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another thing. Be aware of how much money is on your account or you might get a nasty surprise!

I will give you an example: If I load 100p to my Tattoo account, and then sign up for Supersurf50, then the next day when my connection ends, I might find my account empty - actually it has happened many times.

Globe says that in order to maintain my connection I need to leave 5p on the account, they do not say that they are going to collect the 5p or more - they are only allowed to collect the 50p.

Instead of fixing the probleme so that the net will be cut off and only 50p will be collected from your account, they will send you a txt to your Tattoo number saying that the service has now expired and that you will now be charged 5p per 15 min..
Unfortunately the 5p per 15 min. seems to be post-paid, so even though you don't use the 15 min., you are charged the full amount. Thats another probleme that I hope they will fix.

As it is now, it's up to you to disconnect to prevent that from happening.

The biggest probleme about this is just that its not always working, meaning you don't get any txt at all!

And if your not aware of what time you connected and what time you will be disconnected then you might find that your account is empty, and have no clue why.

If you then call Globe to complain, then they will justify it with the advisory - the one you didn't get!

Now, add this to the example above with the missing 2 hours. Meaning that Globe actually starts to charge your account 5p, 2 hours(in the example above) before they actually were allowed to charge you 5p per 15 min.!

In the example above it's 2 hours, but it might be less or more for that matter, depending of the cut off time!

I have tried many times to make Globe's customer service aware of these problems by calling the hotline and later emailing them, and I got numerous case numbers and emails to prove it!

So my advise is this: only load 55p to your Tattoo account. That way you only loose 5p, if you don't disconnect at the time you get the txt from Globe.

Below you will find an example of what I'm talking about, look at the highlighted red and blue area. Also se the entry from today, marts 22, I woke up to my account being empty - without any advisory from Globe.

UPDATE:

After numerous e-mails to Globe customer service I got this reply:

Supersurf promo has a maximum volume capacity of 800MB per account per day. If your usage reaches this volume capacity, you will be unable to browse temporarily until the end of the day but the service will be restored the following day. But once your subscription expires, the remaining hours will not be credited back to your account.

Thank you very much for your kind understanding.

In short, you will not get your unused hours from previous day! Thank you Globe!

With kind regards

JBJ

More to come later:)
